Independent Contract Position

Title: Outside Sales Representative

Reports to: Wholesale Sales Team Leader

Duration: 90 days with potential for 90 day extension(s)

Compensation: $200/mo base + 15% straight sales commission

The South Central Wisconsin Hemp Cooperative (aka South Central Hemp) was founded in 2019 by nine small family farms who committed themselves to growing high quality, USDA Certified Organic hemp. Those efforts led South Central Hemp to work with local processors and partners to create the first cooperatively-owned USDA Organic hemp products on the market grown and manufactured 100% in Wisconsin. Our cooperative believes that our strength is derived from our diverse backgrounds and unique approaches to agriculture and life, and as always, our product is grown “by Farmers, for You!”

Position Responsibilities:

The Outside Sales Representative (aka Sales Representative or Sales Rep) will join South Central Hemp Co-op’s Wholesale Sales Team alongside producer and board members of the co-op, as well as our Sales and Marketing Coordinator. This is a remote position, although at this point in time filling the position(s) with individuals based in urban areas of the Upper Midwest is preferred.  The Outside Sales Representative will set their own hours and use their own techniques to help reach established sales goals of the team. Goals of the Sales Rep are as follows:

  • Identify potential customers through networking and following leads.

  • Arrange meetings with potential and existing customers to present co-op products.

  • Encourage customers to purchase company products by highlighting product benefits, quality, and larger mission and vision of the co-op

  • Build and maintain solid working relationships with both new and existing customers.

  • Prompt submission of purchase orders to the Financial and Logistics teams for processing.

  • Follow up with customers to inquire into whether purchased products meet their expectations, collecting sales performance feedback, offering product marketing support

  • Submission of the necessary paperwork and obtaining customers’ signatures to complete each sale.

  • Address customer concerns and resolve complaints.

  • Provide progress reports using shared sales tracking documents and during one hour standing weekly sales call

  • Utilize established co-op sales team documents as guidance including sales procedure, sell sheets, sales script, etc.

  • Keep an open line of communication with Wholesale Sales Team Leader and Sales and Marketing Coordinator

  • Use of personal vehicle, communication device(s), mileage and other expenses will be the responsibility of the Outside Sales Rep. Access to the Co-op’s sales email account will be provided.

  • Hand deliver new business orders when they fall within 20 miles of Sales Rep’s office or residence.

Time Period and Compensation:

The Co-op Outside Sales Rep will receive a monthly base rate pay of $200/month.

The Sales Representative will be paid 15% straight commission on sales revenue for new and residual business generated during the time period of the contract.

This is a 90 day contract with the possibility of a 90 day extension

Position Requirements:

The Sales Representative will be asked to fill out a W-9 prior to the contract period beginning. The Sale Representative will be asked to provide proof of standard business insurance prior to the contract period beginning.

The Sales Representative will be asked to become familiar with the Wholesale Sales Team Folder and all related Policy and Procedure.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sales Representative will be asked to practice safe, considerate social distancing while engaged in sales work on behalf of the co-op. This includes but is not limited to wearing a mask at all times for in-person customer communications, or offering alternatives to in person work such as phone and video calls, etc.

Additional Requirements include:

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Experience in sales, cannabis related sales are a bonus

  • Provide their own communications platforms and technology

  • Understanding of the sales process and dynamics

  • A commitment to excellent customer service

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Superb interpersonal skills, including the ability to quickly build rapport with both customers and suppliers

  • Competency using computers and Google products for a variety of tasks

  • Able to work comfortably in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to become aware of and communicate the Cooperative’s values and mission, product specs and quality, in addition to a basic understanding of CBD Hemp science
